:D

I think the title says it all.

The best part about this camp were the people I met. At first I was really skeptical about making friends easily. But it was so easy I didn't even have to do much. Everyone came with an open heart, ready to know new friends. That's what made the camp a success for me :)

As most of you all know by now, I joined a club called the Chinese Music Group (CMG). What CMG does is organize a musical production every year. I auditioned for a place in the orchestra playing the clarinet and this camp is a production camp. The new friends I made were Aline, Anna, Buddy, Buildy, David, Jason, Natasha, Tina, Wei Jiin, William, Wilson, Yan Yao, Yen Min, Yolanda and many many more! Added with old friends such as Tsu Ann who suggested I join CMG, Cindy Chandra, Cindy Yeo, Keat Mei, Wei Yun and Jack, it was a total blast!!!!!!!

Letting Go..

A friend once said to me, "If we could all just learn to let go, we would be a lot happier." And he wasn't just referring to love relationships. It's about everything in life. The unattainable goals we have, the impossible tasks that preoccupy the whole of our lives, even the simple everyday wishes we have.

With desire comes disappointment. With hope comes a certain risk of let down. Persistance, determination and effort helps us get to places, but the majority of us don't get what we want all the time and some, just don't get anything at all. It doesn't mean that we should give up easily, it's good not to let our emotions take hold of us for too long.

I was learning to let go of a past relationship and my friend was learning to let go of his Ivy League dreams and many more personal endeavours. We tried not to hold on to the things that have come to past so that we could look forward to new possibilities. Reconstructing our goals and rearranging our perspectives if you will.

And now, tonight, the big irony is that I'm learning to let go of our friendship. Maybe it was in a time of need that we met each other. Maybe it was sheer luck that we happened to be in the right place at the right time. I know that, because a month too late I would've missed knowing him completely. I'll be frank and say, we have never met. It was a cyberspace/ webcamming/ over-the-phone friendship. Maybe a lot of people think that these friendships aren't real. But it felt real to me.

Like all my other wishes, I'd wish this would last longer. Sure, there is still the occassional phone call and sms. But I know some things just can't be forced to happen so I promise myself, no matter what I would still be a good friend whenever he needs me to be because I haven't forgotten what it was like. Temporary as it was, I will now always remember that I shared a special friendship with someone who seemed so close yet so far. And for those few special months, I will try now not to let myself expect anything back.

Of all the things I have learned from this friend, I will remember that he taught me how to let go...

My First MeMe

I've been tagged by none other than the sipeh suku Ben Moh. Let me tell you a bit about Mr. Momok. I met him in a band forum,Voteband.net. He's a music student in Kuching. Is married and has a concubine. Seriously. You know how these music types are : Violin = wife, Flute = concubine. We found out that we "ngam key" G Major. LOL. Inside joke :P HAIH. This is my first tag ever, but then it's this (putting it in Ben's words) "sipeh hard" tag. Dunno should be grateful or not. After I answer this I'm gonna whack him. HAha. Not that I've actually met the lil' bugger before. But I'll have my chance. Here goes :

01: What is your IRC/MSN/YM nick? ~ h3l3n
02: What’s the first word that comes to mind? ~ SIPEH MOMOK! (ok I know this is two words) let's stick with MOMOK
03: What was the word you last said? ~ OH
04: What was the last word you type? ~ OH
05: What word do you hate? ~ duh
06: Can you rearrange these letters to form a word? giismsn ~ missing
07: What is your favorite prime color? ~ blue
08: Have you read Da Vinci Code? ~ YES
09: What is the word of the day here? ~ gravid \GRAV-id\, adjective:
Being with child; heavy with young or eggs; pregnant.
10: Finally, click here ~ deliberative poll
n. An opinion poll conducted after respondents have been given information related to the poll's issues, as well as time to discuss and deliberate upon the information.

i) Write an entry of between 100-200 words, with the words in your answers above included once.
ii) MeMe cannot be sent back to the sender.

List of words : h3l3n, momok, oh, oh, duh, missing, blue, yes, gravid, deliberative poll.

-----------------------------------------------------
Story
It's time, she thought. h3l3n has never felt such exhiliration, not since the Case of the Musical Momok (ghost) which had haunted her for months. These Malaysian authors sure know how to tell a gripping tale. And a long one at at that. Even the thickest World Encyclopedia paled in comparison. A pile of letters threatened to spill over her desk. She did not have so much as a second to breathe as she turned the pages, trying to solve the mystery before she got to the end of the story. But now, now she would get down to business.

h3l3n sifted through the pile slowly. She ripped the first one open. Her eyes flickered over the numerical figure at the bottom.

OH. Damn these things.

But this was not the first time she'd forgotten to pay her bills. A second letter caught her eye.

What's this?

OH.

She scanned the rest of its contents briefly and then tossed the paper into the overturned bin in the corner of the room.

Where is that damn thing!

h3l3n searched frantically. She kicked aside a tower of books blocking her path. Funny thing how the mess never seemed to bother her before. Her drawers were spilling with scribbled bits of paper and the occassional food stain. She stopped to think for a while.

Where is it?

Then she saw it wedged between two dusty files.

Ah-hah! There's the missing letter!

Duh.

She'd left it there two weeks ago. h3l3n reached for it, knocking over her coffee mug in the process. She quickly tore it open. A red logo flashed on the lefthand side of the header. She smiled. Although her favourite colour was blue, this is the one time she would have to paint a different colour. She didn't even care if blood would spill. It had to be done.

Yes, it is time.

The gravid woman would have to win to see things change for the better. Nobody in their right minds would support any candidate 6 months into her pregnancy under normal circumstances. The pressure would be too hard to take! But this woman was unlike any of those dogs they have in that cage. She was a trooper. She could easily slaughter those sonovabitches, baby or no baby. All the others did not even feel a deliberative poll was necessary this time as was the previous years. She was the right person for the task.

Suspense..

Suspense.........

h3l3n grabbed the nearest pen she could find and scrawled an "X" in the box next to the woman's name. She smiled to herself. She'd done her duty.

-----------------------------------------------------
Hehe.. Finally done! It's definitely over 200 words lah. What to do. hehehe.. Hope everyone enjoyed that piece of writing. :P I'm not gonna tag anyone this time. Haih.

*Gives momok the evil stare*

SIPEH HARD.

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all fathers~~ :D

I've said this many many times before, and I'll say it all over again. :)

My daddy is the most patient person I know. Knowing what he has to endure everyday makes him my hero. He has the kindest and most generous heart above everyone else. There are things he has done that would blow your mind away (Personal matters here so I won't display for all to see). He represents a role model of how I think all men should treat their siblings and how all fathers should treat their children. He is never aggressive or impatient.

My dad teaches us what we need to know in the best way possible. He is neither domineering nor authoritative. My dad rarely orders us, he lets us make our own decisions, trusting that we would make the right ones. He doesn't say "Because I said so" or "I told you so". My dad is always encouraging and supportive without being too dictative. It's always about "I know you can do it" and "I'm sure you will pull through this". He knows when to guide us and when to let us learn by ourselves.

Anyone can feel at ease around him simply because he has an open heart. Being funny and spontaneous wins him points too :) His booming laugh and sly jokes puts everyone at ease. Although corny sometimes, but knowing that I have a dad who can joke with my friends rocks! Not any one of them dislike him. In fact, I am always reminded by them that I have a great father. That's how cool he is. :D

Mr. Su is also a workaholic. But that's the point of it. He works so hard to gives us the best things. We have a nice, comfortable house on our own land. Two nice cars. The holiday trips every year. All the nice food. Annie and I have a good education here in Australia. Annie and Mom have all the clothes they want. Albert has all the football equipment he can get plus the latest "everything". I get to buy all the fiction I desire.

He made all this possible without compromising family time. I can't think of a time when I'd lost my dad to work. Never. He puts family first. Friday and Saturday nights are family time. No meetings, whether for work or for the school alumni board. Rather, it is us who fail him sometimes. *Thinks about the nights out with friends*

I don't have much confidence about my abilities, or anything about myself. But I can damn well pledge that I have a dad that any kid would be proud of.

Big Fish vs. Ex-Big Fish

Do you know what's going on in our political world lately?

Big Fish VS. Ex-Big Fish
(But looks like very small fish now)
Aiyoyo..

We all know that Dr. M. has been openly and "constructively" criticising the government HE once presided over, the government HE helped build.

I think Dr. M is wayyyyyy overboard. I'm not suggesting that he should shut his trap, oh no. Because he made some good points. Badawi better buck up before the next general elections or he'll be in serious trouble! But does Dr. M. have to make it public?

In psych terms we call it, "attention seeking disorder". Hah. Bluffing nia. No such disorder BUT there should be :P

If he did it because
1) He realizes where he went on during his time as Prime Minister
2) He really believes that some policies/decisions need reviewing

Be my guest lah. Say all you want.

BUT
The fact that he's critisizing for all of the nation to see is disgraceful despite what he says about "my right to say what I want in a democratic country".

Hypocrite!

What democracy?
What rights?
Now you're not in power and you realize what a "shaddap" country this is, your turn to bu suang?
*Translation : Bu suang(Mandarin) can mean any feelings ranging from uncomfortable to anger.

If you want to say something, tell the government privately lah. Making this into a circus show totally contradicts the "constructive-ness" he claims!!

And then some people ah.. SO AFRAID of criticism, SO AFRAID of "freedom of speech". I'm not saying that you should listen to a mad man talk crap about the government, but if someone has a legitimate reason and voices concerns, then listen lah!

"Oh, Dr. M. shouldn't bad mouth the government, it bad for the country. The citizens will not trust in their leader anymore."

What a load of BS.

But what do we expect? If they can't even take into account an Ex-PM's criticisms, what about the rest of us "common citizens"? That's why our country is sooooo backwards! Talk about "first-world mentality but act like "third-class government". When will they understand, without criticism, without challenge, how can there be change for the better?

Haih
*Shakes head*

Memang stupid!
*Translation : Memang (Malay) means definitely; surely; undeniably.

Friendship : Over or Under?

Dear Friends,

Here I go again, switching into thinking gear. I know I know..

"Thinking is good, but too much of it can drive you crazy."

I've heard that so many times I even say it to myself after every serious thought. Maybe that's why the majority of you think I'm insane anyways.

I just took a shower, was scrubbing the oven pan when I started thinking.

Friendship. What is it?

How do you describe it?

This is how I see it : Friendship is something which you don't just say, you have to act it. It is about accepting someone into your life, caring about someone, being tolerant at the things you don't like about them, most importantly you put them close to your heart.

These are the values that I still believe are true.

I used to think that friendship has to have trust. Well, that's not accurate. You don't have to trust someone entirely to be friends with them. Strangely enough, I wouldn't trust some friends to keep certain secrets, but I can trust that same person to be there for me when I'm down. I guess it's what you value, coz a friend is also human. She can't do everything you expect her to do!

I also used to think that in a friendship you'd have to be compatible with that person. Wrong again. Coming from a group of friends who are so different, that theory pretty much went out the window a long long time ago. Vera, Fen, Hwan, Juk and I could not have been more different.

Maybe the only thing we had in common was that we enjoyed screaming at basketball games.

Is Friendship Underrated?

I think being a true friend is more than we give credit for. See, I have a theory. Let's call it Friends Endure Relationships.

Let me explain. Say, you are the person in perspective.

1) Your friend gets a boyfriend.

You being the true friend that you are, you support her.

2) You don't like her boyfriend. WHY?
(a) The guy's a jerk but she can't see it
(b) He's an ok guy, but your friend stops spending as much time with you. You take it out on the boyfriend.

You think, it's ok to be ignored. You stick to her like a true friend anyway.

3) Then they start to have problems. WHY?
(a) She found out the guy's a jerk. (FINALLY!)
(b) She just loses her feelings for him. (These things happen you know)

What happens? After 456 nights leaving you to drink tea on that couch alone, you console her, give her advice.

4) She breaks up with her boyfriend and comes running back to you. She probably says, "Thank God you're here. You're the best. All guys are jerks!"

What do you do? Don't do? You don't tell her about the days you haven't seen her. You don't tell her about the problems you've had while she was busy smooching with the guy. You don't let her know that you cried your heart out the day your dog died and she was at a meet-the-parents dinner. You tell her, "It's alright hon. I'm glad you're ok."

If you endure all this and not just once but many times, you're one true gem. Give yourself a pat on the back. That's it.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Then again,

Is Friendship Overrated?

Sometimes I think we hold friends to too high an opinion. I can think of a few scenarios when you need your "so-called" friend to disappear.

When they :

1) Stab you in the back - Girls gossip, sometimes it hurts. I know guys have this too
2) Dump you for their boyfriends - This sucks.
3) Steal your boyfriend - Sucks even more.
4) Tell you to go somewhere else and get a life - This is the last straw.
5) Disappear when you get too "problematic" - Here when you're happy, Gone when you're down in the dumps.
6) Betray you - Gosh, this could mean a lot of things. Secrets, lies, "I didn't mean to do it!".. all that jazz..

Yeap. That nice-faced thing can be a bitch.
------------------------------------------------------------

Another question : Where does friendship lie on your ladder of people?

Know how I rank it? Based on who I would protect with my life.

1) Siblings
2) Parents
3) Spouse
4) Best/close friends
5) Extended family
6) Boyfriend
7) Friends
8) Colleagues/Coursemates
9) Acquaintances
10) Neighbours

If you qualify for two categories, pick the one further up the ladder.

So.. where do you lie? :)

------------------------------------------------------------

For me, whether friendship is overrated or underrated, it depends on the people you meet, and you yourself. What kind of friend are you? What expectations do you have? How much do you value that one person?

So what say you? Is friendship overrated? Or underrated?

TATA!

SAYONARA!

ADIOS!

Wakakakakkakakakaka !

Who can guess how the two papers went?
Let's just say I got really lucky.

Yes, I really hold nothing back when it comes to self-relaxation! Nothing like movies and a good read :D

Cheerio~
